Varicose Veins
What are they? Vein branches off the high pressure system that are greater than 3 mm in size and are visible and bulging on the surface of the leg. Some patients have pain, itching, burning, aching, discomfort over these veins. Many patients have discomfort when the veins first erupt, but often the veins develop slowly over time and people accommodate -- get used to the discomfort.
Varicose veins are the ultimate sign of high pressure in the leg vein system. However, some people keep the pressure in veins that are deeper, and no varicose veins are visible.
Varicose Veins
High pressure in the main superficial and deep veins is transmitted back through the superficial veins. The veins become dilated and tortuous. Some patients have veins on the surface, while others are hiding the dilated veins deep inside the leg a, with only swelling and other nonvisiable symptoms.
